The Pirate Queens Trail

Follow in the footsteps of a real Pirate Queen.A true legend of a woman who traded blows with the English & Spanish Navies,negotiated face to face with Queen Elizabeth 1st and gained respect of all in Ireland.See where she was born, the castles she fought , the seas she sailed in and stay with her descendants on the Wild Atlantic Clare Island where she died.  Spend time on a unique Island , cycle through an ancient mountain pass and wonder in amazement at Irelands only beuatiful fjiord valley before finnsihing at the best place to live in Ireland. Day one would be a short 25km coastal trip from Westport to Roona Pier to catch a ferry to Clare Island .A pirate queens home , 7000 year old petrified trees, castles, medeival churches, lighthouses, unique wildlife , history and an authentic community of unspoilt island life in the heart of clew bay .Day two would be getting the ferry there and to the mainland before heading off towards Ireland's only Fjiord.Then we discover an ancient montain pass with dramatic mountain scenery before finishing in Westport . Aprox 50kms . Day three would be a trip along a Greenway. 44kms of off road cycle track.We don’t stick to the most travelled route but head off into the Nephin Beg mountain range and along ancient coastal paths, before Finishing back in Westport to sample the famous local food nightlife . Aprox 50kms.
